Mobility update

Yesterday afternoon, Samuel surprised me. I'd set him in his crib for a moment, sitting down amid his toys, while I made the bed. I sat down myself for a moment to look at a TV show, and when I turned back toward the crib, there was Samuel--standing up, holding onto the bars, bouncing up and down and looking pretty pleased with himself. How about that!

Click on the link for a more recent video of Samuel's crib-standing antics. You can't tell from the recording, but he was sitting down when I started filming--he's gotten so fast at standing up on his own, I wasn't able to catch it!

Samuel is taking steps with more confidence now, holding onto my hands or another available means of support. He is also learning to move sideways bit by bit--for example, standing on his crib mattress, holding onto the railing, and moving hands and feet gradually over until he gets far enough over to turn the corner and look in a different direction. Every once in a while he likes to let go and feel himself stand unassisted--just for a second or two, though, since he still can't keep his balance for long.

What do you experienced parents out there say: how close is he to walking on his own?

Wow, how fast they grow up. I think it's hard to predict when he will actually walk. We are certainly looking forward to seeing him and you in person!
Love, Mom
